Grandma and the Doodlebugs!

When I was a child my grandparents lived in a little town called Ingleside near Corpus Christi on the Gulf. I always loved going to see them for so many reasons and I have so many wonderful memories of visiting. One of the things I would spend hours doing was playing ok maybe terrorizing would be a better word, the Doodlebugs that were in Grammy's yard.

This year we noticed tons of the little funnels that they make in our front yard and so mom and I decided it was time to show the kids what they were and how much fun it is to watch them. We had a blast and now I remember why I always found them so much fun!
Here is an awesome specimen of an Ant Lion Larva (which is their scientific name) home with a bug!
A picture of Grandma showing the girls how to entice a Doodlebug to come to the surface.
One of the huge mounds of funnel shaped Doodlebug homes in our front yard!
